It says root successful but no superuser app in app locker. It is on the SD card and the device won't let me install any .apk file. Please advise. Thanks for this great tool and website!

Finally got root me to work by toggling the wi-fi instead of bluetooth. Now i can't shut the wifi off, once it is off it turns itself right back on. Please advise... Thank again.

Hey guys, am new to the forum, but happy to see so many people eager to Root. I work in IT doing server management, so I know firsthand the dangers of ROOT.
What are you guys using to backup the stock version of the phone? I just got mine today and definitely want to Root in order to gain access to free tethering and hot-spot capabilities.
Just want to make sure and do this the correct way!
Thanks
Feel free to reply to here, but would appreciate PM so I don't have to go digging through the forum.

I believe they have the stock dump files around here if ever needed. With Android and the rooting software that is available, you have to try to mess it up to screw up your phone. Just use the one button root and unroot method and then dont delete your stock widgets/apps. There are several programs out for backup once rooted though.

Thanks for this great tool and website! Do you have a program that moves apps to the SD? If so, turn it off. If that is not the problem, then go ahead Unroot and start over. Make sure no firewall or virus scanner is running. Another option is a couple posts up to use Easy Root on your phone.

Ok, I got mine to root now and I can run Barnacle Wifi Hotspot app, works very well. One note of caution. I had the latest drivers for Motorola (4.6.5) and the adb could not locate my Droid X. I had to uninstall those drivers from the ctrl panel and install the ones you included (4.6.0). It still didn't work right away when I rebooted, I got the error were the buttons just disappeared, but when I reran it again it worked perfectly except when I had to turn off the Bluetooth. I had to play with the wifi and the bluetooth but I got it right.I'm avoiding putting the newer drivers back on for now. Can you verify if they are causing issues?
I hope Unrooting is uneventful. Now if we can just get some custom ROMS or something more to do with this unrooting.

Am one of the only ones who cannot get this to work? I have gotten it to finally start going on the status bar and get to where you click 'Continue' and toggle the bluetooth but after 30 or so tries it always fails. I have tried toggling the bluetooth and wifi both from on to off and off to on. I've tried toggling both in on go and tried toggling them separate. Nothing works. I have tried it in PC Mode, Mass Storage Mode, and even Charge Only, and the only time i get the program to get past a blank screen is in Mass Storage mode and then i run into the above problem of constantly failing.
i really am trying to do everything suggested before asking for help but i am quickly getting frustrated. Please help!
Also on the side, where are you all finding these instructions? the first post with the download doesn't have any instructions and i had to go searching google to try and find out if i even had it in the right USB mode.

have used this and worked like a charm....but try this if you are having problems. http://alldroid.org/Defa...40&g=posts&t=640both worked equally well for me but the last one is an app that once installed is very simple to use. Hope this helps.

Found my problem about getting a "root success" and no superuser. Needed to be connected in "PC" mode on the DX.

Ok doc, need a little help.
As stated in my earlier post, I updated using the nice GUI. I have the SU in my app drawer, mhone is running fine.
I wanted to root prior to loading FROYO so I could have Titanium Backup and Wifi tether operational.
Neither app functions. Wifi says it can't connect and Titanium says it can't get root access. Also loaded Terminal Emulator an get the $ at start so it seems I'm not rooted?
Want to be sure before moving SU to xbin and loading FROYO.
Thanks

Crash1781 when it reboots that means you are not root anymore. Try opening cache fill folder in Root Explorer and it will tell you that you are not rooted. That's how I can tell the difference.

I'm sorry, but is that: 1) No, your phone won't work, but keep toggling WIFI until it does or; 2) Yes, your phone will work even if the root fails - even if the WIFI toggle doesn't work or; 3) Yes, your phone will work - but you may have to toggle the WIFI a few times. After reading everyone's FAIL stories I just want as much information about this process before I try it. And has it been determined yet if the 2.2 OTA update will still install if I root 2.1? Many thanks ....
