Ok, I have successfully gotten the 2.2 onto my phone, and am still rooted.

Only problem I am having now is my computer no longer recognizes my phone as a properly installed device. I just tried downloading the latest motorola drivers from Rainabba's thread "How to get 2.2, Rooted, on your Droid X": http://www.motorola.com/...VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD

But they did not work either.  Anyone having a similar problem? I know another friend of mine is seeing the same thing. Is there another location to download post-froyo computer drivers for the Droid X?

Windows XP Pro 32 bit if that helps

Thank you in advance for the assistance

here you go.  I was having problems with ADB i found these Drivers on XDA.  They work.  My ADB composite device was successfully installed.  Just place this somewhere where you know you can find it when you install select advanced installation and select the driver.

I have the same issue here after upgrading my X to 2.2. I tried to install the driver many many times from http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210VgnVCM1000008806b00aRCRD

The exact problem is Windows can't find the ADB interface driver. All other USB connection drivers are ok, like USB mass storage, Windows Media Sync, and PC mode.

Only adb command doesn't work. The error message is can't find device. In Device Manager, there is a yellow exclamation on Motorola ADB Interface icon. The updated drivers from jetnoitz don't work either.

On Mac, adb command works fine, but not on XP or Windows 7.

Can anyone help?

I had the same problem develop after rooting and upgrading to froyo. I was eventually able solve the problem by installing a fresh set of ADB drivers (from the guide thread) while my droidX was connected in debug and mass storage mode.

Someone in the chat recommended connecting the phone w/o USB debugging mode turned on to get the drivers (windows).

The other alternative is to download the drivers here :)

MotoConnect_1.1.31.zip (5,943kb) downloaded 935 time(s).

Thank you all, esp. myanth.

Finally I have got the ADB driver installed on my Windows 7 machine. The key is to turn off USB debugging on the phone and then turn it on. Windows 7 recognized the device and then found the driver.

I used the attached Motorola driver before on my XP machine at work. Even after the installation, XP still said can't find the driver. Monday I will first turn off the USB debugging and turn it on again to see if I will have the same luck there.

This one works great, but everytime I plug my phone in, whether it's in charge only, usb mass storage, or any of the others, it opens up a VZW webpage, I'm not quite sure why it happens, but it's pretty annoying.  Buy hey, at least the phone's connecting to my computer now.  Thanks myanth.

To sum it up, if you have problem installing the ADB driver so you can use the adb command on Windows, you need to follow these steps. I tested it on both XP and Windows 7.

  1. Disable USB debugging.

  2. Plug in your phone.

  3. Down down the Motorola driver below and install it. You will see several devices found and drivers installed.

  4. Enable USB debugging now. You will see the same set of devices found and drivers installed as step 3, plus Motorola ADB device.

  5. Now you should be able to use adb command in DOS prompt.

to get rid of the annoying popup when you plug your phone in,

plug it in, once you see the popup, right click the M on the taskbar, and there's something along the lines of "when starting up" - set it to none

This worked wonderfully. Thanks!

Note (and this may be obvious but), uninstall all the old Motorola drivers and MotoConnect and stuff before starting this so everything is fresh.
