I'm back! Here is the GUI for the Droid X Froyo 2.2 Root!

Can someone please confirm it works on Droid 2 as well?

Check out new blog post to get it or download new attachment!

http://sil3ntki11.tumblr.com/

Android SDK doesn't have to be installed!

Please read the directions and DONATE if you like what I've done. There is a donate button on my blog! I did not make this hack! I just wrote the GUI. If you don't feel like reading what I have, the link to the hack is here.

Pretty straight forward, EXTRACT THE FOLDER TO SOMEWHERE ON YOUR COMPUTER.

THEN RUN RootMyX2.exe.

Make sure that you have:

- USB Debugging Enabled under Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging

- Motorola USB Drivers are installed. Download
 here.

- Please try all different connections modes: USB Mass Storage, Charging Only, Windows Media Sync, Etc.

YOU STILL NEED .NET Framework 3.0! Here

MediaFire link for people w/o accounts! ~ Download Here

You must extract the files to a folder somewhere on your computer and then run RootMyX2.exe.

Apparently you should be running this as Administrator. For those of you that are having trouble getting it work.

Shift > Right Click RootMyX2.exe then press "Run as Administrator"

This is most likely a Vista and Windows 7 issue.

Please give feedback and e-mail your problems (along with a copy of your Debug.txt file) to sil3ntki11.droid@gmail.com

Edit:

Quote from successful user:
"At first it hung at Executing am5.bin, but I figured it out and got it to work. I had to make sure to put the phone into USB debugging mode before connecting it to my computer. Once I put the phone in usb debugging mode first, then connected it to my computer, then switched it to windows media sync mode, everything worked fine. I have root with wifi tethering and other root apps working. Thanks a bunch. Donate coming this weekend when I get paid."

Also, running the root twice has seemed to work as well.

 TL;DR;

Put your phone is USB Debugging Mode first, then connect it your computer and switch it to Windows Media Sync Mode, then RUN THE ROOT :)

More advice:

"NOTE: I had to cycle through the all USB connection options from PC Mode to Windows Media Sync to USB Mass to Charge Mode. It finally took on the Charge Mode. Just FYI! Thanks again!"

MediaFire Downloads: 440

File Attachment(s):
RootMyX2.zip (1,418kb) downloaded 18,660 time(s).

Thanks for this!  I already rooted my X manually, but I'm sure this will help a lot of people who are afraid to go through the manual steps a lot!

Will you be building an 'unroot' function on to this one as you did with the original root GUI?  That was the big help for me, as I'm not worried about rooting manually, but doing the unroot process...

Your GUI helped me with the unroot when I was going to do the OTA update just to make sure I wasn't screwing myself over with any mods I had done.

Thanks again!

Yeah I will be adding an un-root method. Just wanted to get the root method out there because I figured people wouldn't need the un-root nearly as fast as they did before.

Appreciate the compliments.

Great to hear.  Again, appreciate the work.  Work like yours makes customing/modding a lot easier for those of us who don't have the same techinical knowledge!

Thanks for getting this up. I have been waiting for this as I could not get the manual method to work. Problem is, this does not as well. I am running into the same problem as boiyoing. I connect the droidx, make sure that USB debugging is on and that I am connected as media share as your site specifies, and it fails. I also tried it connected as PC mode as well and it still fails. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated so I can get this bloatware off. Running 2.2 with version 2.3.15Mb810 kernel 2.6.32.9

Thanks again for all the help

I am going to make a debug version for everyone who is having trouble with my program. Just check back for the posted debug version (should be within the hour) and then post the results from the text file (Debug.txt) in the RootMyX folder on your desktop.

Sorry for the double post, but I have a fix in the works, just can't test it until I get back to my dorm. I'll let you know around 4:00 PM EST.

THANKS AND SORRY!

after some trial and error i finally got it working . i think part the problems people are having is not making sure all drivers are installed . there are seperate drivers for each usb mode and all of them have to be installed for it work . also it wont auto install any drivers with usb debugging mode active . you will have to uncheck it for the drivers to install . or atleast i had to .

all that being said i will definatly be donating .    now that im rooted can someone please walk me through getting some of this bloat ware off here ??  is it possible with root or am i mistaken ?

Thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, the drivers are very tricky. I find that the Windows Media Sync ones seem to work the best.

Make sure if you are using those, that you're not syncing songs at the same time.

@ Sil3ntKi113........IT WORKS! IT WORKS! You are the Greatest! (Newbie bowing down at you feet) I'M NOT WORTHY! I'M NOT WORTHY!

I just installed Titanium Backup and Wireless Tether. They both work
great. Especially love the Wireless Tether. Now I don't have to use the
USB cable to tether my Droid X. Soooo.....what else can I do with my
rooted DX?

That's great! Essentially you can do almost anything now. I would search the forums here to see what people have done!

Droid noob and I don't know much about computers.  I have downloaded the USB drivers and the root zip file is on my desk top.  Now what?  When you say "run the RootX2.exe. file", how do I do that?   Is that the zip file?  Please talk to me like I'm an 8 year old, because that's how I feel.

Confirmed on my personal Droid X! Un-root method is actually easier than the root so I would not worry about it!
