Thanks for getting this up. I have been waiting for this as I could not get the manual method to work. Problem is, this does not as well. I am running into the same problem as boiyoing. I connect the droidx, make sure that USB debugging is on and that I am connected as media share as your site specifies, and it fails. I also tried it connected as PC mode as well and it still fails. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated so I can get this bloatware off. Running 2.2 with version 2.3.15Mb810 kernel 2.6.32.9
Thanks again for all the help

Im in a need of some help. I am on 2.1 and I rooted my phone with this program. The only thing i I did was install a 2.1 NexTheme. Well now that 2.2 has come out I want to unroot my phone to get the OTA update. So I removed the NexTheme and I am trying to unroot my phone but it doesn't work. I have my phone on Charge Only and USB Debugging Mode enabled. I press the unroot button and the entire process completes and my phone reboots and it seems like everything went well but yet I still have Superuser Permissions on my phone. I'm not very familiar with all of this but any help would be appreciated.

Thank you much for all of your hard work!! Got my DX rooted in about 12 mins total, including the first attempt that got hung, a phone restart and the second attempt which was successful.
I would remind everyone who is going to try this, make sure your phone is set to PC mode. When I first turned on Debugging then plugged the phone in, there is a little icon on in the task bar on the phone for debugging when USB mass storage mode is selected but disappears when the mode is changed to PC mode. I thought this icon was needed therefore left the phone is USB mass storage mode for the first attempt which may have contributed to the hang up. After the restart, I set the phone to PC mode and everything is now all good and I am a ninja.
Once again, thank you.

I am completely new to all of this Android stuff. I have downloaded all of what I think is needed. I have downloaded and installed the SDK(don't know what to do with it), JDK, and motorola drivers. When I put my phone in debug mode, windows cannot find the drivers. One time it did find them, but when I switched from Mass Storage to PC Mode it couldn't find them again. I am running Vista 32bit. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm not even sure what program to run, nothing is giving me a "root me unroot me" option. furthermore, it looks like i need to call verizon and pay for the hotspot, this will simply give me unlimited access? is not having the hotspot preventing this from happening? also, having a portable hotspot won't benefit me that much, so would i just be better off paying for local internet at a higher speed than paying monthly for the droid x hotspot? i'm more than content paying 20 extra bucks a month to play my playstation online. i only want it to use my computer at my house. furthermore, if not having the portable hotspot isn't worth the money, then can i still root it for the many other rooting capabilities without having the hotspot enabled?
Edit: i've made progress, but i still can't connect to pc mode and debugging at the same time assuming i have to use that since nothing else seems to be working. at least i figured out what program i need to be running.

I have tried this almost one million times on my X and the only response I get is root failed.
I have tried in all usb modes and debugging is checked.
I know I have to be missing something simple but I cant get it to work
Do you push bluetooth at the same time as continue, and does bt need to be on or off?

Does absolutely nothing. Installed Java, Android SDK, and .Net 3.5 Framework. Rebooting. Ran DroidXRoot.exe, and all says is "Installing Motorola drivers...". Waited for 30 minutes. Nothing changed. Tried manually installing Motorola drivers. Installed fine. Re-ran DroidXRoot.exe. Still said "Installing Motorola drivers...". Does absolutely nothing.

Figured I share my suggestions & experiences. I got it to work, but it wasn't as smooth as I had hoped.
-Install motorola drivers, then connect your droid X, & go thru every mode there is. This will ensure that all drivers for all different devices will get installed. Each mode had to install different & same devices as previous modes.
-Having installed drivers on 3 different machines (XP, XP & Win 7 x64), often the device couldn't locate drivers. I pointed to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\Mobile Drivers\Drivers as needed, and even had to go update the driver via Device Manager sometimes. 1 machine failed thru a hub no matter what, but worked fine when connected directly to USB port on tower.
-USB Mass storage mode with Debugging is what ended up working for me.
-I ran RootMyX2 several times, always getting hung up on detecting the device. It never progressed. I noticed the it launched 2 instances of adb.exe each time, and never seemed to work. I would stop the program, & it would leave 1 instance of adb.exe running, which I kept killing manually. After trying all the other modes, I came back to USb Mass Storage, & decided to leave the orphaned adb.exe running after the failure, and started the RootMyX2.exe up again. That very next time I started it, it detected the Droid X instantly & started the root process.
-It ran arm5.bin, & said it would take up to 5 minutes. It moved about 15%, then rebooted my Droid X, & progressed about 30% over the course of about 3 minutes, & stopped. 30 minutes later it still hadn't moved any further. I disconnected the USB, then connected it back relatively quickly. It flew thru the rest of the progress. I was unsure what the status was.
-I opened a command prompt to the RootMyX2 folder, & ran 'adb shell', then 'su' which gave me a # sign. This should indicate that root access is there. I downloaded & installed Titanium BackUp Root, which prompted for superuser access, & now I know I am fully root.

I'm fairly new to rooting a phone and have been having the same problem all day. I have everything extracted as told, and get stuck after the boot at "Waiting for device." I have cycled through all of the modes and have everything installed. I use tethering through USB with no problem, but when i try and root it, it will not work. As said above...--It ran arm5.bin, & said it would take up to 5 minutes. It moved about 15%, then rebooted my Droid X--. just sat around and waited basically all day and nothing has changed. Any suggestions?

I've had my Droid X since it came out and I've been curious about rooting it. This seemed like a reliable route to rooting. I tried this softwre and I'm having some difficulty. I tried running the program while toggling BT and WF, the Root button disappears and it says that's installing Motorola Drivers. I've tried PC Mode, Mass USB and Charge Only mode. Used the 32 bit driver and I'm using Windows 7. Any suggestions? Also, in the process of toggling my BT switch it eventually stopped toggling and just got stuck in the middle(the little circle indicator just kept going).
