Now I'm getting a "Failed! Make sure device is plugged in and drivers are installed!" error.

I know the drivers are updated...I saw each set install. My computer recognizes the phone being plugged in. Any suggestions???

Got it to work tonight. Rebooted the phone and PC, turned debug on before I connected to computer, then cycled through the USB modes til it worked (it worked in Sync Mode).

Your instructions for installing the ADB drivers did not work on my computer with Windows XP.  I had to use the method outlined here to install the ADB drivers.

I got through your method and it worked,....very easy-to-follow illustrated instructions! Thank you! Like mentioned on this thread, it's probably best to cycle through the different USB connection options first since that gives Windows a chance to load all the drivers to recognize what you're doing.

Well u DIDN'T have everything installed cause I just did it 2 hrs ago with the same OS and didn't have any issues.  Way easier than when I rooted the original Droid. Go back and read post #18 and make sure you switched to "Media sync mode"

Read this too...... http://sil3ntki11.tumblr.com/root-faq

Also re-read post #1, espesialy this part......

Edit:

Quote from successful user: "At first it hung at Executing am5.bin, but I figured it out and got it to work. I had to make sure to put the phone into USB debugging mode before connecting it to my computer. Once I put the phone in usb debugging mode first, then connected it to my computer, then switched it to windows media sync mode, everything worked fine. I have root with wifi tethering and other root apps working. Thanks a bunch. Donate coming this weekend when I get paid."

Also, running the root twice has seemed to work as well.

 TL;DR;

Put your phone is USB Debugging Mode first, then connect it your computer and switch it to Windows Media Sync Mode, then RUN THE ROOT :)

More advice:

"NOTE: I had to cycle through the all USB connection options from PC Mode to Windows Media Sync to USB Mass to Charge Mode. It finally took on the Charge Mode. Just FYI! Thanks again!"

Don't give up!

Hey there im new hew and to android but im about to get my Droid X this week. I assume it comes with 2.2 straight from Verizon. I have been looking around the web on how to root but all i can find is root for 2.1. Please let me know if this will work for a new Droid X......Thanks

I'm back! Here is the GUI for the Droid X Froyo 2.2 Root!

Can someone please confirm it works on Droid 2 as well?

Check out new blog post to get it or download new attachment!

http://sil3ntki11.tumblr.com/

Android SDK doesn't have to be installed!

Please read the directions and DONATE if you like what I've done. There is a donate button on my blog! I did not make this hack! I just wrote the GUI. If you don't feel like reading what I have, the link to the hack is here.

Pretty straight forward, EXTRACT THE FOLDER TO SOMEWHERE ON YOUR COMPUTER.

THEN RUN RootMyX2.exe.

Make sure that you have:

- USB Debugging Enabled under Settings > Applications > Development > USB Debugging

- Motorola USB Drivers are installed. Download
 here.

- Please try all different connections modes: USB Mass Storage, Charging Only, Windows Media Sync, Etc.

YOU STILL NEED .NET Framework 3.0! Here

MediaFire link for people w/o accounts! ~ Download Here

You must extract the files to a folder somewhere on your computer and then run RootMyX2.exe.

Apparently you should be running this as Administrator. For those of you that are having trouble getting it work.

Shift > Right Click RootMyX2.exe then press "Run as Administrator"

This is most likely a Vista and Windows 7 issue.

Please give feedback and e-mail your problems (along with a copy of your Debug.txt file) to sil3ntki11.droid@gmail.com

Bro, I need your help, I've tried everything to get my phone rooted, but it seems to get hung up at checking for device no matter what I do... I will definitely donate if you can help me root my phone.  I have followed your instructions to the word and I am still getting stuck.  Your help would be appreciated, thank you.

I tried several different methods that are out there and none worked until I tried this one. It didn't work the first try so I changed the connection type to charge only and it worked. Thank you for making a painless process, now we just need to crack the rest so we can flash new ROMS, again, thanks for your work, I appreciated it.

Ok very much a noob I guess its called. I got this Droid X from ebay that was brand new- apparently not so because it is rooted. Is there any good books for dummies like me? It has 2.2 froyo I think but not real sure how to tell. The kernel number is 2.6.32.9-ga42712ew30471@il93lnxdroid#1 (is this number also a ROM?). I know i'm not very good with this stuff, Is there a easy way to unroot? I don't want to right now but just wondering if easy to do if I do need to take back into the Verizon store. I don't even know how this was rooted and no info.. any info or help be greatly appreciated very much. Thank you all for support and help.

^^^^ I rooted my self but wanted to try the unroot just to make sure it worked. It didn't. So I looked around and found this app in the market, Z4ROOT. I INSTALLED IT AND IT RECOGNIZED THAT MY PHONE WAS ROOTED. So I hit the unroot button and it cleared my root. So I rooted again and it works. Try it out. Its for 2.2 froyo. Hops this helps.

oh ok. I had that on phone yesterday after finding it finally. I asked developer but maybe question was too out there or couldn't understand me too good. I was thinking I could do that with Z4root. I'll add it back to apps and give it a shot some time. Thanks so much for response.

Gave a shot and wow great app. I didn't unroot since I do like being rooted but nice to have option too of unrooting if needed. I did re-root phone and at first it got stuck on me and watched a youtube video and just had to reboot before re rooting again.. bam I was all re rooted in minute maybe. Top notch app I think. Thnks guys

having issues with my DX..

no matter what I do it hangs and wont complete the root, says root failed. or simply cannot find my device.

I have debugging enabled and have tried all the different usb connection types. the prog doesnt see the phone at all unless its in media sync mode but then  it hangs just after the "wait 10 seconds" part showing "Waiting for device..."  and then nothing it just sits there. i left it sit for 10+ min and nothing.  tried rebooting the phone and then it shows root failed...

I also attached the debugging file to help.

running on W7 ProX64

any help would be nice.

I have the exact same problem. I did the update to 2.2.1 today and tried the RootMyX2.exe and have the same log file as you. It copies the files and gets almost half way ac cross the green status bar and just says waiting for devices...

Just wanted to post that I was able to successfully un-root my Droid X on the very first attempt with this method while on OTA 2.2.  Debugging was on and I was in "Charge Only" mode.  The application said that un-rooting was successful, but got hung up at the very end where it said it was shutting down the ADB,  I had to restart the computer to get the ADB to shut down.  While it was doing so, I rebooted my phone and I was un-rooted!  Simple as that.

I did the OTA 2.2.1 update and re-rooted with Z4.

I have an older computer with Windows XP.

Do a search for Z4 and root with it.  Lots of pain-free success with this app.

Yea, doesnt work for me. Did everything you said. Now your program is saying "Failed! MAke your your device is plugged in and all drivers are installed!" Yea, its plugged in and all the f'ing drivers are installed. This isn't exactly "one-click rooting." Can someone tell me the best way to root my droid x without the use of this app?

I hope that before anybody tries to use RootMyX2 that they read this entire post first.  RootMyX2 doesn't work.  Not trying to be harsh here, but it's horrible.  I took the above advice and found Z4root and it's flawless.  It worked the first time out, without having to go through any of the crap RootMyX2 requires.  Also notice that there's no support for RootMyX2 anymore, either...I think the developer last came up in here about 6 months ago.  That pretty much tells you to stay away from it.

I'm saying this as a newbie having done my first ever root...stay away from this program and get Z4root.  Then load the free version of Titanium backup, then get the $5.00 "key" for it.  You will not regret it.

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the long break, college stuff. I will look into why the un-root is not working; however, I can confirm that it worked on my phone. As for those people who say they are stuck at "Look for popup/ninja app", that was poor wording on my part. If you get that message you are rooted. Just find an app that requires root to confirm that it is working.

Or, just get Z4root and know instantly that it both roots and unroots, instead of wondering if it has rooted and then isn't able to unroot....
