Hello all! I recently got my Droid X a few weeks ago and I happen to get curious about rooting because of an app I was checking out had said "for rooted devices only" I did update my phone with the 2.2 version froyo. By the way what is froyo by the way, is that just lingo for the version? Back to my orginal question can my device be rooted with out issue after the 2.2 update, please be gentle and by the way this forum is AWESOME Im a nerd in the making but Im cool with that. :O)

Froyo is a release version of Android.  At first it was just supposed to represent the 2.2 release of android, but I think it now spans up to 2.6.something for the latest release on the R2D2 Droid 2.

Yes, your device can be rooted without issue after the 2.2 update.  Here is a link for an one-click solution made by Sil3ntKi11

I followed a step by step process that I don't remember the link for.  But if you are nervous about rooting, A) make sure this is something you want to do, as with root access, you can mess up your phone.  B)  if you really want to do it, I recommend the one click process, as all the manual steps are done for you.

Hope this helps!

P.S. here is another link:

And I don't think I can post links to the actual site, but check out Rootz wiki on google for a bunch of rooting and modding instructions for your X

Not a problem!  I have been helped by tons of people on various android forums! I'm glad I can contribute something back.  One note about removing the extra apps... if/when you have to upgrade with an official release from Verizon, you will need all the default apps installed...

Instead of deleting apps, couldn't you just rename the app by rewriting .apk to .bak? And if that is one solution, how would that affect the apps?
